Development of a standard business plan template to support a five-year development plan

Business plan

Context

  • A regional chain of health and fitness centres looking to expand nationwide by opening new centres

Objectives

  • Develop a standard, easily replicable business plan for each new centre opening opportunity

Deliverables achieved

  • A standardised and automated business plan with two selectable scenarios, including a five-year projected profit and loss account with financial ratios and a workforce projection, as well as a cash flow forecast and an estimate of the initial funding requirement and working capital requirements
  • Standardised presentation for potential investors and financial partners
  • Implementation of analytical accounting to monitor the performance of the new centres

Key success factors

  • In-depth understanding of the challenges facing the client’s business
  • A standardised design that can be adapted to each new centre opening, easy for the manager to get to grips with and clear to investors and other financial partners
  • Supporting the manager in understanding and getting to grips with the BP, enabling them to carry out simulations independently

Tools used

  • Excel (for Business plan)
  • Pennylane (for financial management)
